Smith sang in church and played harmonica as a child. He didn't begin his professional career until the early '60s, when he played behind folk legends Rev. Gary Davis and Pete Seeger. This is an absolutely wonderful recording of Rev. Dan Smith a few years before his death. Great Chicago blues music with a gospel message, comparable to Muddy Waters, but with a little more harmonica. Includes original songs interspersed with some personal testimony in his world-wise, gravelly voice. One of the most enjoyable gospel blues albums available.
