Super Chikan - 2001 - Shoot That Thang [320]

James "Super Chikan" Johnson has blossomed from an oddity, a quirky songwriter and struggling singer-guitarist who claims to talk with chickens, to a juke-blues wizard in four years and three albums. On Shoot That Thang, the Clarksdale, Mississippi, resident has retained his ability to spin tales that capture the folksy weirdness and humor of Delta life, but he displays newfound strength as a melodic vocalist with a versatile grasp of the six-string.

Super Chikan - 2009 - Chikadelic [192]

A strange trend is happening in Mississippi. As more and more Norwegians come to town to enjoy the blues, they take a little of Clarksdale back home with them. Clarksdale is now the sister city to Notodden, Norway. The new CD by Delta bluesman James “Super Chikan” Johnson is scorched with the Delta blues, but renders an overall relaxing sound. Produced by Jostein Forsberg and cut at the Juke Joint Studio in Notodden, it features musicians from a local band called Spoonful Of Blues, instead of Chikan’s regular Mississippi band. Spoonful includes Jostein Forsberg on harmonica and vocals, Morten Omlid on guitar, Jens Haugen on bass and drummer Eskild Aasland.
